Rainbow Loomers Wanted!

by Steve on January 8, 2014

Hello all and welcome to 2014! We have wasted enough time this year so it is time to start helping others. The Message of Hope Foundation, Inc needs our help.

Their foundation is collecting 15,000 loom bracelets to pass out to children in hospitals. They will take your creation, made from the heart, wrap it around an iTunes card, and give it to the kids so they can enjoy some new music or game apps on their respective iDevices. Tori (Bri’s sister) and Angie (Bri’s Mommy) have been working hard during the snow day off of school to begin and so far they have 51 bracelets ready to go.

You can make your bracelets and send them to the address I have provided below or we can collect them and send in one shipment. If you choose sending them in with ours we would like to have them by January 17th. We can pick up locally or you can send them to arrive by the 17th to us at:

lovingBri Fund
714 Wind Song Trail
Mooresville, IN 46158

The lovingBri Fund will pay the postage to get the gift to Message of Hope. If you would like to send your bracelets directly to Message of Hope please send them to the address below:

Message of Hope Foundation, Inc.
PO Box 277
West Wareham, MA 02576

Thank you all so much for putting a smile on a child’s face. So many of these kids have little to smile for as they battle for their lives and a gesture of kindness means so much to them, and their Mom and Dad.

What a fabulous opportunity for kids to show kindness! Count us in! My daughter will be sending you all the bracelets she can make in just a few days. Also, I’m a children’s pastor and if it’s ok with you, I’ll post this on our facebook page to recruit a few of my ‘sheep’ who are bracelet-making machines! They’ll love it! Thanks & Blessings!

Steve January 9, 2014 at 10:20 pm

Lana, please share with anyone you can think of. This is a great opportunity for the kids to learn about serving others and having compassionate hearts. Thank you so much!

Reply

Kristina Shackelford January 9, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Count us in!! We will work on them this weekend! How big do they need to be. I understand the are for children, but would be useful to have an idea of how many actual bands you are using! Thanks. Also do you have the iTunes/ google play cards to put them around?

Reply

Steve January 9, 2014 at 10:23 pm

Kristina, I am a rainbow loom rookie. Not sure how to tell you sizing. If they fit your kids that will be good. I think we will be buried with different sizes so make what you want. We do not have the iTunes cards. Message of Hope has the iTunes cards and just needed someone to help make bracelets as their plea for bands was not producing enough. Looks like Team lovingBri will help push them over the top. Thanks to you and your kids for helping out!

Reply

Pennie Becker January 9, 2014 at 4:26 pm

Awesome. I will schedule a meeting with my girlscouts and have them loom away!

Reply

Steve January 9, 2014 at 10:26 pm

What a great idea Pennie! I had not given thought to approaching groups like the Girl Scouts. Hope this fills the requirement for some type of badge for them. We would be willing to write up a little letter if it would help make that happen. Thank you in advance young ladies!

Marci, do a web search on rainbow looms. It seems to be the year’s biggest fad as I know people young, old, male, and female making bracelets and other items with their looms.

Thank you for reaching out for the kids Jaime! The looms are available from many different places. I have seen them under several names. Rainbow Loom, Crazy Loom, and Wonder Loom. Not sure what part of the country you are writing from but the y’all may be a clue so I know y’all have Walmart and they are sold there. They also are sold at places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. (I lived in NC for eleven years and I “grew” a drawl while I was there. Love the drawl. If you are from Indiana then I guess you are just south of Indy!)

I will not be traveling to see her until the 17th so I won’t be able to get them to you by then so I’m going to mail them directly to foundation. Is there a deadline that they need to have them by? Want to make sure we have them on time. Thank you so much for sharing and giving the kids a good thing to give back to. My youngest and my niece are both Riley kids so we love to give back!!!!

The first week of February they will start sending the bags to partner hospitals. Because of lovingBri Fund approaching them with an offer to help they will now be sending bags to Riley. Will these go to hospitals in MA or will some go to IN. My daughter has offered to send all the bracelets she has already made. Plus all that she can make over the weekend.

Reply

Steve January 11, 2014 at 9:56 pm

Hi Barb. The bracelets will go to hospitals in many states. When I offered our help to the director of Message of Hope Foundation she decided that Riley Hospital should be added to the list since Brianna was a patient there during her battle. thank you for your interest and please thank your daughter for her work.

My 8 year old daughter is in and getting busy as we speak… In October we were unable to run in the Komen race as we usually run, so she made and sold rainbow loom bracelets at church and around the neighborhood and raised over $70… So she loves to give back and is already nearing completion of her first bracelet. Should be mailing out a package on monday

I just told my daughter, Emily, about this and she wants to help! Do you think, due to the enormous response you’ve gotten here, that there will be another shipment or something to be sent? I’m not sure how many she’ll be able to make by the deadline, but we’ll get started! This is such a great idea!

Reply

Steve January 11, 2014 at 10:21 pm

Michelle, future needs will be determined by what they receive now. We will keep everyone informed. For now just have her make as many as she can. No number is too small or large. The important thing is that the kids are being given the opportunity so serve and learn a life lesson from this. Please tell Emily we said welcome to our team and we are grateful for her willingness to make another child smile!

This is being shared all over face book and is how I found out about it. I will be making htem and sending a bunch to you. What I was wondering is do you need them by the 17th or is that just to send them in with Bri’s family. Just wondering how long yet I have to get more supplys and start the kids as well on making them.

Reply

Steve January 12, 2014 at 2:58 pm

Faith, thank you for your interest in helping out. The lovingBri Fund will be shipping these out on Monday the 20th. That shipment is to help them with their first shipment to the hospitals in February. There will be possibly be another shipment to go later so you can send them to either place. We are in a rush at this time trying to get the first bags to the kids in the hospital early next month.

I saved this and read about Bri and your lovingBriFund to my 9 year old granddaughter, Kiya. She received her first loom in November and has been making them nonstop. Kiya told 2 of her friends, Mahaila and Amelia and the three of them made 21 bracelets in one hour. They are going to recruit more friends to make the bracelets. I plan to put them all in the mail to you next Monday, January 13th. Bless you.

Steve,
I feel really bad we missed the deadline. Tomorrow the post office is closed so it will be Tuesday, January 21st before I can mail them. The girls have made 100 bracelets so far. They are having fun bonding together and doing this project.

Is it my understanding that you are planning a second shipment deadline? I will mail these to you then. I’ll look again tomorrow for an answer to make sure.

Blessings to you.

I saw this kind of late but my 13 year old took it and ran with it. She posted posters around her school asking anyone that wanted to contribute to leave them in the bucket she took to school and left in the office. Her school collected 260 some odd total. I was so proud of her passion and want to help with this. I worry now because the “due” date is faat approaching and I don’t think the package will make it on time. Please contact me and let me know how we can ensure that the package gets to it’s destination on time. Thanks!

My three children have made over 30 and our Cub Scout Pack made some(while waiting at our Pinewood Derby) to donate also. I am hoping to get them in the mail this weekend! I have seen somewhere that there were patches for this that the scouts can earn. Are you guys affiliated with this that you know of? Thanks for all you are doing to help get these bracelets to the hospital!

Reply

Steve February 14, 2014 at 6:13 pm

Carolyn,
Thanks to all for wanting to help. I asked some of the girl scout troops if there was some badge they could earn for helping but no one knows of any. If you find that the Cub Scouts gives a badge for community service, compassion, or whatever we would be willing to send a letter to them telling them your pack participated so that they can get the badge. Thanks for being a part of Team lovingBri!
